The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and China Daily,  China's multi-media information platform with a strong presence on international social media platforms, signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing on January 19, 2022.

Zhang Yuzhuo, secretary of the leading Party members group, vice president in charge of daily work and chief executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, and Zhou Shuchun, chief editor of China Daily, announced the establishment of the research institute of international sci-tech communication.

Wang Jinzhan, member of the leading Party members group and executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, presided over the signing ceremony.

Zhang Yuzhuo said that the establishment of the research institute is an important exploration and practical measure to promote deep integration of think tanks with media platforms to better publicize China’s non-governmental exchanges and cooperation in international arena.

Zhang hoped the two sides to give full play to their respective advantages and uphold principles of openness, sharing, innovation and integration to establish more diversified international science and technology communication models to enhance the communication’s appeal and credibility for the public of international community.

Zhang urged to boost people-to-people exchanges to promote mutual understanding among countries, introduce Chinese culture to the world and make contributions to China’s diplomacy.

Zhang called on to make continuous efforts to expand channels for international non-governmental sci-tech exchanges and cooperation, voice up innovative ideas and moral duty of China's sci-tech circles, and build up new types of partnership in international sci-tech communities.

Zhou Shuchun said that the glorious stories of Chinese scientists are brilliant business cards to show the real and multi-dimensional image of China to the world.

Zhou hoped the two sides to take the research institute as a base and make full use of CAST’s scientist resources and China Daily’s media platforms facing global to innovate the way of telling stories of Chinese scientists and their sci-tech innovations to the international community, and express Chinese sci-tech workers’ wishes to cooperate with their peers of other countries for building a human community with a shared future for mankind.

Xu Yanhao, deputy secretary of the leading Party members group of CAST, and Qu Yingpu, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, signed the agreement on behalf of both sides.

According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly conduct relevant researches to better facilitate international science and technology communication, conduct people-to-people exchanges and accelerate establishment of China’s international science and technology communication system.

Zhou Shuchun and his group also visited the History Museum of CAST.
